Boro United Teams
2008 Tryouts are the following Dates and Times:
Sunday April 27th
from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Parent Question & Answer Session 4-4:30 following tryout
Sunday May 4th
from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

For:
Girls between the ages of 9 and 18 with the athleticism, desire, and dedication to reach their potential as soccer players. If these traits are not a priority for you, this is not the program for you. WYSA encourages players of all levels of interest and commitment. If the Boro United program is not for you, I would be happy to discuss other options within the WYSA club.

Purpose:
To provide the committed player additional opportunity to practice and compete at a level that will challenge individuals and teams through high expectations and greater competition.Practices: It is expected that players attend practices and be on time.

Practices will be held at the WYSA Soccer Complex on Monday through Thursday (times may vary but will not start before 5:30). Each team will practice at least 2 times per week. Practice schedules will distributed at least a month before they start.

Teams:
All teams will play in the CPYSL league. Some teams will play in the premier division when appropriate, and some teams will play up age groups based on ability to perform at that level. Teams are based on ability more so than age and/or size will be considered. Team rosters will be held to a minimum of players to ensure adequate playing time. If you are on the roster you will play at least half a game.

Tournaments:
Each team will play in at least 2 tournaments (included in the cost of the team). Premier teams will play in at least a college showcase tournament. We do, however, try to be reasonable about the distance and number of days in which tournaments take place. Tournaments are traditionally ONLY help on holiday weekends. These are generally the only times there are breaks in the schedule.

Coaches:
Bryan Flickinger (NSCAA National Coaching Diploma & Waynesboro High School Girls Coach) will handle training for all the teams. I will have assistant coaches for each age group that may run games when necessary.

Uniforms:
Each player will purchase a uniform. Team uniforms are a one-time cost. Once a player makes the Boro United team they will continue to be on a roster each season. As coaches, it will be our responsibility to direct player's progress. Players, however, that do not attend practice regularly, remain fit, or are a persistent attitude/behavior problem will not be on subsequent teams. The cost of the uniforms accounts for approximately $115 of the BoroUnited fee. The uniforms consist of three shirts, two shorts, and two pairs of socks.

Indoor Soccer:
All members of the Boro United teams will be included in our indoor league at the Quincy Gym through the winter at no additional costs (no practices/ games on Sunday afternoon or evening). If there is interest we may enter another league as well.

Costs:
The Boro United program was created to provide our local players the ability to get a higher level of experience at a reasonable location at a reasonable cost (a program of this nature typically costs between $500 to well over a $1000). The costs below include training, tournaments, uniforms (if applicable), and indoor soccer. Hotel accommodations are not included for tournaments. New players - $285 (uniform included) Returning players - $175

Please Note: It is your responsibility to be registered by the deadline through WYSA (additional $50) at one of the registration dates (see WYSA homepage for details).

Fundraiser:
There is a fundraiser available to all parents with daughters on the Boro United teams. This is completely optional program, but can be used to help defray the cost of participating on these teams.

The program is entitled "Scrip" and consists of purchasing gift cards that are used just like cash. The gift cards are issued by national and local retailers where most of us already shop. These merchants want to support non-profit organizations, and in return ask you to support them by shopping with gift cards at their stores.

Because "Scrip" is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Our organization buys the gift cards from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to the Boro United parents for full value. The bulk of the discount - from 2 to 17 percent - is retained by our organization. This discount is then applied to a Boro United fund in which 75% will go directly to your daughter and 25% will go into a general fund. Money in the general fund will go towards shipping fees and other operating expenses.

Example: You may purchase a $100 gift card from Martin's. The center charges us $95 because Martin's is discounted 5%. The $5 we earn is then applied to the BoroUnited fund. Seventy-five percent of that or $3.75 will go into an account for your daughter, and the remaining $1.25 will go into the general fund. There are over 500 retailers that participate in this program. If you choose to take advantage of this program, the opportunity is there for you to significantly reduce you costs.

If you have questions, please contact Kathy Taylor @ 765-4372 Website - www.glscrip.com

Tryouts:
All new and returning players must attend both days of tryouts. Tryouts will be at the following times at the Waynesboro Soccer Complex at the field in the far corner opposite the concession stand.

Please understand that those players not making the teams are encouraged to continue to play on a WYSA club team and tryout again in subsequent seasons. The Boro United team has no affiliation with any school district team and it is each individual player's responsibility to manage other obligations in a responsible manner - not those coaches affiliated with the Boro United Program.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you, Bryan Flickinger
